We have several search tools and services to help you find and get the articles, books, and other research materials you need.

Access to the licensed resources provided by the CU is established either by CU IP address or via so-called remote access -  more info here (see Ways to Access Online Resources)

 UKAŽ - CU discovery system 

  • use UKAŽ to search the CU's collections and find books, ebooks, ejournal articles and more
  • you can search Discovery CU as a guest, without logging in
  • use SIS/CAS ID and password to sign into your account for obtaining full texts

Charles University E-resources Portal

  • in the Charles University E-resources Portal you can find all electronic resources of the library and Charles University
  • it contains both licensed resources (available to authorized users from the university), as well as free resources

Electronic journals and books

E-Journals Portal - best for e-journals owned or licensed by the CU Libraries

EZB - Electronic Journal Library - union catalogue of electronic libraries that allows unified access to electronic journals available in our library

E-Books Portal - best for e-books owned or licensed by the CU Libraries 

 

Qualification theses

Electronic theses are available from two repositories:

  • theses defended after 2006 are available in the Thesis repository; it is not necessary to log in or register to view full texts
  • theses defended before 2006 are available in the Digital repository; these theses are available only from university IP addresses and after log in
  • the electronic availability of theses can also be found in the library catalog


Google Scholar

  • to search e-resources, you can also use the search engine Google Scholar
  • from one place you can search for information from many fields and resources: articles from peer-reviewed journals and proceedings, preprints, technical reports, scientific theses etc.
  • Google Scholar also supports direct linking to documents that are available at Charles University - in the search results list you will find links to linking services that will lead you to the full text
  • links will show automatically in the Charles University network, outside the network there are two options:
    • click on Google Scholar Settings and in the section Library Links write “Univerzita Karlova” in the text field; then check the box "Univerzita Karlova v Praze - Full text @ SFX UK"
    • use Remote Access

Ways to Access Online Resources

 

Access to e-resources

  • direct access – available from computers connected directly to the Charles University network (e.g. the computers in the library)
  • remote access – allows users to access e-resources from anywhere

Ways of Remote Access

To access e-resources from anywhere, use:

  • EZproxy Portal – a list of available e-resources is presented after log in
  • links “Remote access (EZproxy)” or “Remote access (Shibboleth)” at each e-resource in the Charles University E-resources Portal

You are going to need:

  • valid Charles University Identification Card
  • password – the password is issued with the card and is valid for 5 days - to extend validity, change or restore your password, go to CAS - Central Authentication Service
