The Masaryk Library of Social Sciences in Jinonice is part of the Charles University library network. It is a campus library founded in 2000 by merging 7 libraries of the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Social Sciences and the library collection of the Environment Center. It aims to provide information and library services to all Charles University faculties residing in the Jinonice campus.
The reading room of the library is located in a separate space in the opposite bulding, address: U Kříže 1-3.
Focus of the library
The library’s primary focus is on social sciences and humanities with emphasis on philosophical, social and cultural anthropology; modern and contemporary history; philosophy; library and information science; area studies; religious studies; political science; psychology; social work; sociology and the ecological dimension of sustainable development (especially – although not exclusively – its economic and social aspects).
To be able to use the services of the library or the reading room you are required to have a library card to show to the staff at the loans desk. Students and employees of the Charles University use their valid CU Student/Employee Identification Card or CU International Student Card as a library card. After filling out a registration form at the loans desk, the Identification Card is registered in the library database.
Others must purchase an External User Identification Card in the Charles University Information and Advisory Centre. It costs 180 CZK, is valid for 9 years and can be used in all Charles University libraries. After filling out a registration form at the loans desk, the user with this Identification Card will be registered in the library database.
Should you need to use the library services for only a short period of time (max. 10 work days), it is possible to issue a temporary registration card for 10 CZK directly at the library. This registration, however, does not allow for book loans.
Library registration is free of charge.
