Where to find us

You can find us in the Charles University Jinonice campus - U Kříže 8, Prague 5. The study room is located in the opposite building.

Getting to the Library

  • Metro B (yellow line), get off at the Jinonice stop, exit on the right hand side; afterwards take the stairs which lead to the red and white building
  • bus 137 (from Na Knížecí or Sídliště Stodůlky) or 149 (from Dejvická or Nové Butovice); get off at the Jinonice bus stop


How to register

Electronic application for the use of the services of Charles University libraries

  • once you have an ID Card, you can register by fiiliing in an electronic application form
  • By filling in the application form, you agree with the observance of the Library and Borrowing Regulations of Charles University (see Rector’s Provision No. 36/2019) and with the provision of personal data. By clicking on the „Electronic Application“ link you will be asked to log in to the Charles University Authentication Service (you will need to know your personal number and password to the UK system). After logging in you will see your current personal data. If your personal information is not up to date, you must log in to WhoIS and change it there. If you do not see your personal data and you have an External Service User Card, you must first personally go to any UK library where your personal information will be added.
  • by registering online, you become automatically registered to all the UK libraries

The Internet

  • you can use any unoccupied computer (except those designated for searching in the library catalog – these are located directly opposite the loans desks at both the library and the reading room) after logging in to the Jinonice network
  • if you have your own laptop or mobile device, you can connect to the eduroam Wi-Fi network
  • you can set up  the log in data via your user account in the Central Authentication Service or on the web of the Jinonice Domain

  UKAŽ - CU discovery system 

  • use UKAŽ to search the CU's collections and find books, ebooks, ejournal articles and more
  • you can search Discovery CU as a guest, without logging in
  • use SIS/CAS ID and password to sign into your account for obtaining full texts

 How to borrow a book

  • find the book in our library catalog
  • after clicking on “Jinonice (x/x)” by the book in the catalog, you can see the status of each book unit – if it is currently available, where it is located and if you can borrow it home
  • using the collection name and call number (location code) you can then find the book on the open shelves and borrow it at the loans desk
  • the book loan period is generally 30 days – details can be found in the overview; magazines and qualification theses can only be studied at the library
  • if a book is borrowed by another reader, you can make a reservation for it after logging in to the catalog
  • if a book is in the library deposit, we will fetch it withing 15 minutes
  • apart from certain books, qualification theses and older issues of magazines are also located in the deposit
  • In the study room you can find only books to study on the spot, current issues of magazines and at the loans desk there are also files with study materials from teachers and CDs/DVDs

 Electronic resources

  • in the Charles University E-Resources Portal you can find all electronic resources available at our library and Charles University
  • qualification theses defended after the year 2005 are accessable in the CU Digital repository
  • when you are not working at a computer connected to the Charles University network, you can access electronic resources using remote access - log in using your ID number (the number below your photo on the ID Card) or username, and password to Central Authentication Service/Information System 

Print, copy and scan 

  • self-service print, copy and scan machines are available in the library, in the reading room and in the copy room behind the reception
  • it is possible to print from all computers in the Jinonice campus
  • print and copy services on these machines are paid using credit on your ID card, which you can top up either via WebPay by logging on https://myq.ff.cuni.cz/en, or using a self-service top up machine in the Jan Palach Library (Faculty of Arts, Prague 1)
  • you can also pay with cash and use our black and white printers (in the library and reading room) and copy machine
